Quick answer

The realistic Rapid Harness alternatives are harness.design (browser and desktop, free up to 100 connections, Pro $24–29 per seat), Wiring Studio (from $29 a month), HarnessHive (€149 per seat), Zuken E3.series with Harness Builder (Windows, enterprise) and Zorowire (browser, quotes from your labour times, €79 a month for five users). WireViz is free, but it draws connection diagrams, not formboards.

Rapid Harness is a capable Windows application: every plan, the free one included, produces a 1:1 formboard, a cut list, a label list and a BOM, with a parts library linked to Octopart. It also ships often — its version history lists five releases in 2026. People still look for alternatives, and the reasons are mostly about price, platform and what happens after the drawing.

Why shops look for a Rapid Harness alternative

  • Price against volume. Standard is $219 a month per user, Professional $299; a five-user team is $6,599 a year (pricing, checked 30 October 2026). A motorsport shop on HP Academy wrote that they “don't do enough harnesses to justify the pricing” (thread, 2021).
  • Buying one month at a time. A forum user described buying a month, building the harness and cancelling (HP Academy, 2020). Rapid Harness keeps cancelled designs readable, which makes that pattern easy.
  • Windows only. The application is a Windows desktop program; Mac and Linux users need a virtual machine.
  • A small free plan. Free stops at 5 designs and 30 connections per harness; a basic engine loom typically has more than 100 wires, according to a builder on the same forum (2021).
  • No quote. We found no costing, labour or quantity breaks in its pages or version history, so the price is still worked out in a spreadsheet.

Which one fits

  • You want free and in the browser: harness.design's free plan is generous (unlimited harnesses up to 100 connections, tiled 1:1 panels). Zorowire's Free goes to 150 connections and adds cut-length allowances and 3 quotes a month.
  • You price harnesses for customers: Zorowire counts the labour operations from the harness and prices them with your own times; Zuken Harness Builder has a Cost Estimator, inside an enterprise suite.
  • You need machine and tester integration today: Zuken E3.series with Harness Builder exports for Komax, Schleuniger and Argus. Zorowire writes a generic metric cut-list CSV; machine profiles are planned.
  • You only need diagrams: WireViz is free and keeps everything in git.
  • Several people, one budget: HarnessHive counts every viewer as a seat at €149 each; Zorowire's Shop plan is €79 a month for five users with viewers free.

Moving from Rapid Harness to Zorowire

  1. Export the wiring table and the BOM to Excel from Rapid Harness.
  2. Import the wiring table into Zorowire and map the columns once.
  3. Add branch lengths in a Segments sheet, or keep each wire's length as a fixed length.
  4. Set your allowances, read the findings, print the calibration sheet and the board.

Shops that show a paid Rapid Harness licence get their first year of Shop at €49 a month. The full side-by-side is on Zorowire vs Rapid Harness.
