Neither Komax nor Schleuniger publishes a cut-list file format. Komax's TopConvert turns a CSV you define into its machine format, and Schleuniger's CAYMAN loads wire lists over the network or from a USB stick. So export one row per wire, every length in millimetres, with stable column names, and map those columns once in the machine's converter.
What the machines actually take
| Software | What its maker publishes | What that means for your list |
|---|---|---|
| Komax TopConvert | Converts a CSV into WPCS, Komax's machine communication, to load whole cut lists. | Any CSV works once its columns are mapped in TopConvert. |
| Zuken E3.series | Exports a CSV for import into Komax TopConvert. | CAD tools feed the same converter; there is no richer standard file to wait for. |
| Bentley Promis.e | Its Komax export needs metric dimensions. | Write lengths in mm, not inches. |
| EPLAN (Komax / Schleuniger exports) | Keeps colour, cross-section and part number per wire for both; for Komax also marking distances, strip length and pull-off length. | These are the columns worth having. |
| Schleuniger CAYMAN | Programs wire lists offline and moves them to machines over the network or on a USB stick; no field list published. | Expect to map columns there too. |
What a good cut-list CSV contains
- One row per wire article, in cutting order: by cross-section, then colour, then length, so the machine changes over as little as possible.
- Every length in millimetres: the cut length and the strip length at each end.
- The wire itself: part number, cross-section in mm² (and AWG if the list came in AWG), colour and stripe colour.
- Each end: strip length, terminal part number and seal part number, side 1 and side 2.
- Context: job, harness part number and revision, wire designator, quantity, twist group and cable if any, and the from/to places.
- Stable column names that do not change between exports, so the mapping in the converter is set up once.
Setting it up on the machine side
- Export the cut list from one finished harness.
- In the machine's converter (TopConvert, CAYMAN's import, or the machine's own Excel import), map each column to the machine field once and save the mapping.
- Cut one wire per row and check lengths and strip lengths with a rule before running the batch.
- Keep the mapping with the shop's machine documentation; the next export uses the same columns.
In Zorowire
The cut list exports as CSV with the same column names every time (`job`, `harness_pn`, `revision`, `wire_id`, `quantity`, `wire_part_number`, `cross_section_mm2`, `awg`, `colour`, `stripe_colour`, `cut_length_mm`, `length_fixed`, `strip_1_mm`, `terminal_1_pn`, `seal_1_pn`, `strip_2_mm`, `terminal_2_pn`, `seal_2_pn`, `twist_group`, `cable`, `from`, `to`, `notes`), sorted by cross-section, colour and length, with the delimiter and decimal separator you choose. Lengths come from the harness itself, so a customer change updates the cut list with everything else.
Questions
Is there a standard cut-list format for Komax machines?
Not a public one. Komax's TopConvert converts a CSV you define into its own machine communication (WPCS), whose specification is not published.
Inches or millimetres?
Millimetres. Bentley's Promis.e help states that the Komax import needs metric dimensions, and metric avoids rounding on short wires.
Which columns does a machine need?
At least wire part number or cross-section and colour, cut length, and strip length per end; terminals and seals for crimping machines; marking text and distances for marking units.
Can Zorowire send the list straight to the machine?
No. Zorowire writes the file; the machine's own software imports it. It never controls a machine.
